FOR SALE: A Gentleman’s
circa 1920 railroad-grade pocket watch manufactured by the
Illinois watch company of Springfield, Illinois, which was in
business from 1869 through 1927.
The movement is mounted in an open-faced, 3-piece base metal
“Spartan” case by the Illinois Watch Case Company, carries the
manufacturer's Serial # 0656650, and the back and bezel screw off.
Remove the bezel to find the setting lever located at the 1:15
The white enamel dial is double sunk with bold, black Arabic
numerals marking the hours, black line minute marks, triangle
marks for the 5-minute indexes. Subsidiary seconds bit located at
the 6:00 position. Original blued steel spade hands.
The pendant wound, lever escapement 16-size movement with Serial
# 3521415 is a, 3/4 bridge, 9th model, with nickel-plated bridges.
The 17-jewel movement has several other refinements, including a
double roller, a gold gear train, screwed-in gold jewel settings,
over-coil hairspring, screw regulator, and 6 adjustments--all make
this watch a nice addition to any collection.
